Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:
I am excited to teach Spanish I again this year at Ooltewah Middle School. Eighth grade students have the opportunity to earn a high school foreign language credit for Spanish I! This is a great opportunity, but also one to take seriously. The grade a student makes in this specific course will be on their official high school transcript and therefore averaged into their high school GPA (grade point average). Those students who were placed in this course were selected because of their grade history/work ethic, teacher/administrator recommendations, and discipline history.
This year, Spanish I will be a SEMESTER LONG (18 weeks) course and take place during RELATED ARTS. The course of study will be accelerated and students need a good work ethic both in and out of class. Class participation is required and homework will be assigned and graded for completion.
Students who take Spanish I in grade 8 will earn one high school credit (if passed). Hamilton County Single Path Graduation Requirements require students to receive a minimum of two credits in the SAME foreign language to earn a diploma. If a foreign language credit is earned in 8th grade, students are highly recommended to sign up for Spanish 2 the first semester of 9th grade!
Gracias,
Señora Spears
