Academic Spotlight

Principal's Spotlight
Posted on 03/08/2021

OMS Families,

I am thrilled to start the 2021-2022 school year as the new Principal for Ooltewah Middle School. I look forward to getting to know students, their families, and our community better in the coming days.

I was a school counselor for 15 years serving at East Brainerd Elementary, DuPont Elementary, Cleveland High School, and Murray County High School. This is my 10th year as a school administrator. I served as an Assistant Principal at Murray County High School, Principal at Gladden Middle School, Director of Human Resources in Laurens County Schools, and Principal at Allen Elementary School.

I look forward to meeting you, and I guarantee you will know me when you see me! I am 6'6" tall and smile a lot.

I am developing my priorities for Ooltewah Middle School as I get to know everyone, and I have already implemented a few changes to share with you today. I have included the dress code below because I have received several inquiries about it. It is the same as last school year except we will not have Dress Down Days allowing students to violate the dress code meant to support our atmosphere of learning.

School Supplies

  • Ooltewah Middle School will provide all needed school supplies for students. (Yes, read it again.)
  • No Supply Lists will be posted on the web site beginning today.

Student Schedules

  • Students will have two Related Arts classes that last 60 minutes each.
    • If you have not made a selection of two Related Arts Classes, please follow this link to complete a Google Form - Related Arts Preference Form
  • The academic classes (ELA, Math, Science, & Social Studies) will be 60 minutes each.
  • All students will have OWL Time each day for 30 minutes to catch up assignments, complete enhancement activities, participate in an area of interest, and have access to other supportive services.
  • Students will not be ability grouped so that all classes have a normal range of backgrounds, experiences, and intelligences.
  • Student Schedules will be shared with students and parents on Registration Day - August 6th. (More info will follow.)
  • Learning begins each school day at 7:15am and our last class finishes learning at 2:15pm.
