About Coach Wilson..

I teach Physical Education at Ooltewah Middle School.  I grew up in Cookeville TN, then went to Motlow State on a basketball scholarship. 2 years later I went to MTSU and graduated in 2006. After graduating, I started teaching at Soddy Daisy Middle School. After teaching PE at SDMS for 8 years, I moved to elementary school for 4 years teaching PE at Middle Valley, Falling Water, and Rivermont Elementary. I have been coaching and/or officiating volleyball for 9+ years. I am married to Tim Wilson and we have a son, Wyatt, who is 3. We also have 2 dogs, Rio and Dexter.

8th Grade At Home Class:

This my first year teaching PE virtually. Our first Zoom meeting will be Friday Aug 14th  We will be using Canvas for our classes. I will miss having you physically in my class, but we will do the best we can! Below are my expectations for you in this class and how I will be grading.

I am trying to keep a regular PE schedule as much as possible. The PE expectations are for you to do your daily exercises and 30 minutes of physical activity every day. You will document what daily physical activities you do for your 30 minutes each day.  I will go into more detail about this below. We will also Zoom once a week to check in on each of you and make sure that we are on the same page.

Where do my grades come from???

  1.    Daily Exercises:

Everyday (Monday-Friday) you will do your four daily exercises. Which is 30 seconds of the each of the following exercises: push-ups (regular or from your knees), sit-ups, jumping jacks (or jump rope, if you have one), and mountain climbers. There are links provided to show how to execute each exercise.

One day a week, you will record and have someone count your daily exercises. I will be the ONLY person viewing this. This will not be sent out to your peers. I will let you know which day this will be turned in. This is a weekly grade and your weekly improvement is my way of letting me know that you have been doing your exercises all week.

  1.    30 Minutes of Physical Activity:

You will also tell me how you have been active during the week. This can be any activity that gets your heart rate up, such as jogging, dancing, walking the dog, floor work out, playing sports, riding a bike, etc. You are required to do least 30 minutes a day. Keep up with the activity you do and how long you do it EACH DAY. You will have to turn in this in weekly. Try to find activities you enjoy!

  1.    Weekly Zoom Meeting:

Because this is such a big class, you will be assigned a day to Zoom with me. This will be the same time and day every week. The meetings will be at 8:00 and I will let you know which of the week you will have. This will just be a meeting with you if you have any questions, share class updates and to see how you are doing. Attending this meeting is a grade, so make it a priory.

I have already sent an email out, if you have not received an email from me and you are in my class, please email me so I can be sure that you are added to my email list. If you have any questions or comments you can email me or ask on our weekly Zoom meeting.

Letter to 6th and 7th grade In-School Classes:

Welcome to OMS Physical Education. I know that 2020 has brought us all some tough challenges. During Phase 2, you will be a part of both At-Home and In-Person Classes. For our In-Person Classes, we are going to structure our classes as normal as possible, while abiding to the CDC guidelines.  Per the CDC guidelines, we will limit and structure locker room time, maintain social distancing, wear mask, wash hands/sanitizer, limit and disinfect equipment.

Our goal for this class is to improve the health of each student and to develop a daily workout routine. During this quarter, each student will perform the following: daily exercises, weekly fitness tests, P.A.C.E.R. tests a timed mile run, and introduction to a variety of sports, while demonstrating good sportsmanship.

IN-School and At Home Grading Procedures:

In Person Classes (2 days per week):  Students will be graded by the following.

  • Daily Exercises
  • Daily Sports Activity
  • Weekly Fitness test
  • P.A.C.E.R. Test

*Typically the students will get a dress out grade, while this pandemic is going on, we will give our students options to dress. While our classes are small, we are going to allow the students who choose to dress out, dress out. We will be using social distancing and masks will be required.

At Home (3 days per week):  Students will be graded by the following.

  • Daily Exercises:

When you are at home learning (3 days per week), you will continue do your 4 daily exercises. Which is 30 seconds of the each of the following exercises: push-ups (regular or from your knees), sit-ups, jumping jacks (or jump rope, if you have one), and mountain climbers. We will do the weekly fitness test while you are at school.

  • 30 Minutes of Physical Activity:

You will also document 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

We are looking forward to a healthy school year!!!
